Staff Accountant

Are you a skilled professional who believes in lending your skills to end hunger during these unprecedented times? If so, consider being the Staff Accountant for the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank. Join our friendly, collaborative, and hardworking finance team, reporting to the Financial Operations Manager. The Staff Accountant will be a strategic member of the Finance team and play a key role in Accounts Payable and other accounting duties.

This role provides growth opportunity, as it encompasses day-to-day accounting and financial close duties as well as involvement on a number of project-based initiatives that will provide exposure to financial operations, software implementations, and analytics. This role also provides an opportunity to work cross functionally with HR, Programs, and other Food Bank teams. The candidate should expect to leverage current skill sets while also focusing on learning quickly and adding value to the current processes.

What You Would Be Accountable for:

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for the following key pieces of work:

Accounts Payable

  • Process a high volume of invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with organizational policies and accounting standards within Accounts Payable software and in some cases outside of the software.
  • Oversee the procure to pay (P2P) process in the P2P software, including purchase requisitions, PO matching, invoice coding, and processing invoices for payment.
  • Maintain expense management platform and oversee credit card expenses and employee expense reports on monthly basis. Export and manipulate raw data from Expense Reporting Platform to Prepare GL upload into ERP.
  • Maintain and review vendor information. This includes banking, ACH, W-9's, and preparing year-end 1099’s.

Accounts Receivable- Shop Accounts: Over 200 agencies such as community centers and senior programs visit the warehouse to shop for food on regular basis.

  • Process and post agency payments for shop account purchases.
  • Process and post ad-hoc payments.
  • Maintain relationship with agency contacts for updates and adjustments as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Programs team for invoice distribution and CRM updates.
  • Monitor aging of account balance and escalate when needed.
  • Assist supervisor with revenue recognition and reconciliation on an ongoing basis.

General Accounting Duties

  • Perform banking activities online and occasionally in-person, including positive pay review.
  • Prepare various month end reports utilizing a variety of tools including BI tools, and advanced excel (Index Matching, Vlookup, Pivot tables, etc.)
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of bank account, investment accounts, and CD accounts.
  • Assist supervisor with month end roll-forwards and schedules such as prepaids and depreciation.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Food Resources teams on procurement related tasks.
  • Act as liaison with HR and assist with payroll, benefits and personnel related administrative tasks such as processing final checks, uploading payroll journal entries and pulling payroll related reports.
  • In office clerical work as needed. This includes mail sorting, statement collection, and other administrative tasks.
  • Assist Financial Operations Manager, Director of Finance and Chief Financial Officer as needed with ad-hoc requests and projects.
  • Assist in annual audit process, tax preparation, and 1099 preparation / review.

Financial Operations

  • Participate in business process improvement initiatives within the finance department and outside the department, including supporting the implementation of new solutions

Assist in driving process improvements to continuously reduce the Accounting Close Cycle duration

What Else You Should Know:

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related area, understanding of GAAP principals and non-profit accounting.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience

KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
  • Proficiency working in ERP systems, Accounts Payable Software and Expense Management platforms. Experience with Tipalti, Expensify and Microsoft NAV is a plus.
  • Experience with OCR automation and processes.
  • Proficient in data entry and data cleansing with a strong attention to detail
  • Advanced analytical skills through Excel (Index Matching, Vlookup, Pivot tables, etc.)
  • Demonstrated understanding of procure to pay process, revenue recognition, AP aging, and account reconciliations.
  • Experience with posting and reviewing journal entries within ERP systems.

POSITION COVERD BY OPEIU LOCAL 29 BARGAINING UNIT.

SALARY The position is full-time. The starting salary for this position ranges from $74,343.55 - $82,007.83, with exact salary depending on experience.
